heic to webp converter

Convert iPhone HEIC photos to WebP — free, no upload, no sign-up — works on Android and desktop — nothing leaves your device
🍎 iPhone users: your camera saves photos as HEIC by default since iOS 11. This converts them to WebP — smaller, universally compatible, and web-ready.
⚠️ Browser support note: HEIC decoding works in Safari on Mac/iPhone and Chrome 105+ on desktop. If your browser can't decode HEIC, it will show an error — use our HEIC → PNG tool which uses a dedicated decoder library.

How to use this tool
1
Select your HEIC file — AirDrop or email the HEIC from your iPhone to your computer, or access it via iCloud Drive. Then tap the drop zone to select it.
2
Set quality — 85 is recommended. HEIC is already a high-efficiency format so WebP at Q85 will be slightly smaller with no visible difference.
3
Tap convert — the browser decodes the HEIC and re-encodes as WebP. If your browser can't decode HEIC you'll see a note to use our dedicated HEIC tool instead.
4
Download or copy — save the .webp file or copy the base64 data URI. Your WebP photo is now compatible with any website, Android device or Windows computer.
All conversion happens locally in your browser. No file is ever uploaded to any server. Your photos stay completely private.

What is HEIC?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's default photo format since iOS 11. It produces files about half the size of JPG at the same quality — great for iPhone storage but not universally compatible.

Why convert to WebP?

WebP gives you the same small file size as HEIC but works everywhere — all browsers, Android, Windows, and any website. It's the best format for sharing iPhone photos outside the Apple ecosystem.

FAQ

My browser can't open HEIC — what do I do?
Use our dedicated HEIC → PNG tool which uses a JavaScript HEIC decoder library that works in all browsers including Chrome on Windows.
How do I get HEIC files off my iPhone?
AirDrop to Mac, use iCloud Drive, email yourself the photo, or connect via USB. On Windows, install the HEIC codec from the Microsoft Store first.
Is the WebP smaller than HEIC?
Usually similar size. Both are highly efficient formats. WebP at Q85 is typically within 10–20% of HEIC size while being universally compatible.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No — everything runs in your browser. Nothing is sent to any server.
